Capanna Alpe Sponda - SAT Chiasso - 1997m

The Capanna Alpe Sponda is located on a large sun terrace in the Chironico valley at an altitude of 1997 meters above sea level. It was built in 1948 and renovated in 2012. It has a dining room with a panoramic view, 4 dormitories, toilets, showers and drying rooms.

Two splendid panoramic terraces, recently enlarged, await you to enjoy typical Ticino dishes or an aperitif with a 360° view of the magnificent mountains. You can admire Pizzo Barone, Pizzo Forno and, higher up, the three three-thousand-metre peaks (Penca, Tenca and Tencia); to the east, the view sweeps over the Leventina, Pizzo Matro, Passo Piatto and, in the distance, the Graubünden peaks of Cengalo and Badile.

It is the starting point for various hikes on easy and challenging alpine routes; the hut is located on the fascinating Via Idra (viaidra.ch), which crosses Ticino from the north to Lake Locarno. Winter hikes with snowshoes and sealskins.
