Ticket Castel Grande
Description
Castel Grande is the largest of the three castles that make up, together with the town wall, the Bellinzona Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000. The castle is erected on a rocky promontory in a strategic position that allowed control of the Ticino valley and thus of the transit routes through the Alpine passes. The castle houses the Castelgrande Museum where exhibits testifying to 6500 years of human presence on the hill, from the first Neolithic village to the 20th century, are presented. In the historical-artistic section of the museum, a nucleus of 144 tempera drawings on paper (c. 1470) is presented, which originally adorned the wooden ceiling of a magnificent 15th-century residence in the town centre. In the Arsenal Hall, the castle regularly hosts temporary exhibitions on various themes.
The ticket includes admission to the towers, the museum and the castle's temporary exhibitions.
